2021

2021 is here (well it has been for a few weeks now) and with it has come a determination to get more quilting done and develop some more patterns for my shop. I’ve started out the year with a whole list of Elephants Can’t Sew goals, and am pleased to say that I’ve already crossed two of them of my list, creating a new website, and writing and listing my pencil case pattern!

My old website, though ok for the blog side of things, wasn’t quite working for me the way I wanted otherwise, so I spent the first couple of weeks this year creating this new one. I really hope this one works out the way I want as many, many hours were spent copying over each of my old blog posts individually!

Just yesterday I added the final touches to my pencil case pattern and listed it for sale in my Etsy shop. That’s now two patterns in my shop, which makes me very happy. Hopefully soon there will be even more. I made a total of 5 of these pencil cases late last year, one each for 5 of my nieces and nephews for Christmas, hopefully they’ll get some good use out of them. To find the pattern you can click on the “Patterns” tab at the top of this page, or just head straight on over to my Etsy shop.

A few more of my goals for the year are to finally get the bar out of my sewing room, put in a new cutting bench and some storage space, and have 4 new quilt patterns in my shop. I currently have two patterns in the works, one quilt is already a long time in the making, Diamond Reflections, I just need to finish quilting it (this will take quite a while as it is a very large quilt and I’m doing a lot of detailed free-motion quilting) and then write up the pattern. The second quilt in the works is an African animal quilt which is still in the drawing of animals stage. I’ve got my zebra, hippopotamus, giraffe, ostrich, lion, warthog, and antelope already drawn with still a rhino and one other animal to go, any suggestions? I was planning on an elephant, but I just don’t think there’s enough room to do those big ears justice, so then I tried out a monkey, but it just isn’t turning out how I’d like.

Well, that’s about everything I’ve been working on lately. I’m really hoping to have the last of my animals drawn up soon so that I can start on the sewing, though most my creative time has to be crammed into Evangeline’s nap time, along with a lot of house work, so it’s been a little slow going. Hopefully I’ll be back very soon letting you know the animals are all ready to go.

Till then, happy quilting!
