Projects, Tutorials, and More

Hi everyone, sorry for another long stretch with no post. Life with an almost two year old and a newborn can be quite busy would you believe! Still I have managed to get back into the sewing room since having my precious little boy and have quite a few projects to share with you despite my busyness and my main sewing machine being in and out of action.

In the Box

New Quilt Pattern and Tutorial

One of the first projects I undertook since Johannes’ birth was a new quilt that I will be making a tutorial on. The quilt itself is completed, now I just need to write up the instructions. This quilt I have titled “In the Box” is a simple but fun quilt pattern suitable for beginners who are just starting out quilting. This pattern is no more difficult than your basic quilt of plain squares all the same size, but it is much more interesting both to look at and make. I plan on working on the tutorial for this quilt early in the new year, so stay tuned.

Room Changes

In other news, the bar is finally gone from my sewing room! Whoohoo! There has been quite a bit of rearranging happening in my room since the bar’s eviction and I have a new cutting bench with storage cupboards underneath that has already been added. I absolutely love my cutting bench! It is at a good height for me to cut without having to bend right over and hurt my back, there is a good amount of storage underneath, and it means I can keep my fabric cutting mess away from the rest of my work. I will one day be getting some cupboards put in also, however that will have to wait a while as everyone around here is booked out for months! There is still a lot of sorting and organising to be done, I’ll share some pictures on the progress soon.

After coming home from hospital and before I had the headspace to tidy up my disaster of a sewing room and get creating again, I was still able to get some work done on the pattern for this quilt. I spent many an hour during Evangeline’s naptime or in the evenings in my rocking chair with the baby either beside me in his bouncer or cuddled up on my lap, working away on my laptop digitising my drawings and writing up instructions. The pattern is mostly finished now, it’s just waiting on the quilt to be finished for some final photos.

And on that note, the quilt itself is finally almost finished! With my sewing machine out of action so much lately it has been put to the side for other smaller projects. However I was getting frustrated with all the waiting and so pulled out my backup sewing machine and have got most of it done now. All that is left to do is the quilting around the lion in the centre (my back up machine’s throat space is too small to get in there properly) and the binding (no walking foot). Hopefully I’ll get my machine back from the doctor before Christmas to finish it off and get the pattern up in my shop, but if not I will take it down to Christmas with me and hopefully finish it off on my Mum’s machine.

Other Projects

Some other projects I have been working on include a couple of Christmas presents, a stocking for an old friend’s little boy and a chicken cushion for my niece. I’ll share more on these later.

For more up to date news, please follow me on either Facebook or Instagram where I share quick updates as they are happening. And don’t forget to keep an eye out for my coming beginner quilt tutorial also.

Happy Quilting!
