Back to Work

Hi Everyone and welcome back.

You might have seen on my Facebook page that the kids and I were away visiting my parents last week. After a bit over a week away I am now back in my sewing room and at my machine. My time away was lovely. We mostly just enjoyed time with my parents, and also my sister and her family who came up a few times as well. I did get started on some repairs to a friend’s quilt while I was there, her naughty dog thought she’d have some fun with it, but still have a ways to go till it’s finished.

I also had a very exciting trip to the house of my mother’s friend during our visit. This friend has a Bernina Q20 sit-down long arm machine that I got to have a play with. I have been thinking lately about getting one of these and so being able to test drive one was not only very fun but also helpful. I sadly forgot to take my practice square with me so I can’t show you my doodling that I did with it. It was a good experience to be able to go and have a play and feel the difference between it and quilting on my sewing machine. Even though you sit down at the machine and move the quilt under the needle as you do with a normal sewing machine, the machine stitches according to how you move the quilt, rather than just going when you press your foot on the pedal and really felt much more different to quilting on a domestic sewing machine than I was expecting. I still haven’t entirely decided whether I’ll get one or not, but I am sorely tempted!

So, now that we’re back home again I really need to get to work on my Lily quilt. I was hoping to get three Friendship Star blocks put together last night, however the kids were not overly cooperative and so I only got as far as cutting out the pieces and making the half-square triangles. I did however manage to finish them off this morning. I now have 14 blocks done, however I think I’m going to scrap one of them, so that’s 13 blocks done with another 9 still to go. I’m hoping to get another few done this week, with the rest done by the end of next week.

Well, that’s all the news for now, I hope you’re all having fun in your sewing spaces also.

Till next time,

Keep On Stitching
